All About Disney's Newest Island Destination: Lookout Cay At Lighthouse Point

I was fortunate enough to sail on the Disney Magic during a 4-night voyage that included a stop at Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, shortly after its grand opening.

I was so excited to visit Disney's newest tropical destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, located on the southern tip of the island of Eleuthera. Disney owns 700 acres of the island, which makes up Lookout Cay. When you get off the ship, there is about a half-mile walk on a pier to the island. For those who need assistance, there are golf carts, strollers, and wagons available. The walk really isn’t as bad as it looks and only took about 10 minutes. The reason Disney built the pier was to go above all marine life, maintaining sustainability while preserving the natural beauty of the island.

Once you get off the pier and onto the island, you’ll find family cabanas, an iced coffee shop, a merchandise cart, and a tram stop. The tram ride to the family beach took about 5 minutes. Trams run consistently, so there wasn’t a long wait for the next one. The island itself is stunning, with the softest blush pink sand and crystal-clear water.

Disney has thought of everything you need for the perfect beach day! Beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and life vests for children are all available as soon as you arrive. The family beach is expansive and conveniently located near several restrooms, outdoor showers, bars, and two dining locations. Rush Out Gush Out, an interactive play area with slides and splash pads, is a hit for the whole family. Your kids won’t want to leave!

Next to the family beach is Serenity Bay, the adults-only area. Here, you’ll find lounge chairs, umbrellas, Serenity Bay BBQ, and the Blue Hole Bar. There are also private beachside cabanas available for an additional cost, which must be reserved in advance. These cabanas are amazing, complete with an indoor room, outdoor patio, refrigerator stocked with drinks, snacks, towels, and a cabana host.

Lunch is served on the island from 11:30 am to 2 pm at Tru-Tru BBQ and Tru-Tru BBQ Too. The food was excellent, and you definitely won’t go hungry. They offered classics like hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ ribs, and rotisserie chicken, as well as some Bahamian-inspired dishes. Soft drinks and soft-serve ice cream are included at no extra cost, and there’s plenty of seating in large covered open-air structures.

Sebastian’s Cove is another splash pad area inspired by The Little Mermaid. Kids can visit Sebastian’s Cove and hang out with the same Disney Cruise Line counselors from the kids' club on the ship. The counselors keep the kids entertained with activities and crafts, giving parents a chance to relax at the adults-only beach.

Character interaction on the island is plentiful. Mickey and Minnie host meet-and-greets, while the Play-Play Pavilion offers a shaded area with games like hula hoops, connect four, ring toss, and mini soccer. Throughout the day, you can join Disney’s Fun in the Sun Beach Bash, featuring a dance party with Pluto, Goofy, Chip, and Dale, as well as a fun limbo competition. Check the Disney Cruise Navigator app for times.

The Goombay Cultural Center is a gathering space where you can learn about Bahamian culture and make crafts with guidance from local artisans. You can even create a headpiece and participate in Rush! A Junkanoo Celebration. Twice a day, local Bahamian performers, decked out in elaborate colorful costumes, lead a parade from the tram stop to the Goombay Cultural Center. The celebration includes singing, dancing, drumming, and appearances by some of your favorite Disney characters!

Other activities on the island include renting snorkels or taking a walk along the Discovery Nature Trail, a self-paced scavenger hunt that lets you explore the island’s beauty.

Of course, there’s shopping on the island! Disney T’ings offers island-specific merchandise, while Treasures of Eleuthera features handmade items crafted by local artisans.

I can’t say enough good things about Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. From the moment you step on the island, you’re immersed in the spirit and culture of the Bahamas with a little touch of Disney magic. Vibrant colors and artwork created by talented local Bahamian artists surround you at every turn. There’s so much to do and see, or you can simply relax on the beach and enjoy the serene surroundings. I love that there’s something for everyone to create their perfect beach day!

I would love to help your family plan a Disney Cruise and experience Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point for yourselves!
